In light of the Key Bridge tragedy in Baltimore, there has been renewed conversation locally about the condition of the Rourke Bridge and whether it is structurally sound. The discussion has percolated on the Lowell Sun, 980WCAP-AM and on social media.
Here at InsideLowell, any web article or social media posting regarding the bridge is sure to generate commentary about the structure’s safety. That even proved to be the case with our recent April Fool’s story about Uber River Boat service.
With so much concern over the condition and safety of the structure that spans the Merrimack River, we decided to publish the full state inspectional reports, unedited and unabridged, for anyone interested in reading them.
The “Routine” and “Critical” Field Reports were completed in November of 2022, with the “Underwater” Report completed in September of 2021. The next inspections are scheduled later this year:
