CHELMSFORD – Four Chelmsford High School students have submitted their artwork to the 2024 Congressional Art Competition.

The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school visual art contest which selects submissions from each U.S. congressional district, the winners from which are honored on the district and national levels.

The winning pieces of artwork from each district are displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

The Chelmsford students whose works are up for consideration are:

• Jane Nute, grade 9, “Overcome”
• Karen Khela, grade 10, “The Stars Between Our Dreams”
• Jordan Cox, Grade 11, “Cardinal in Winter”
• Grace Bellezza, Grade 12, “Snapdragons”

Congresswoman Lori Trahan will be hosting a reception, during which the 3^rd Congressional District winner will be announced, at the Chelmsford Center for the Arts, 1A North Road, on Friday, May 3, at 4 p.m.

Since the Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries.

Accepted mediums for the two-dimensional artwork include:

• Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
• Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)
• Collages: must be two dimensional
• Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
• Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
• Computer-generated art
• Photographs
