Lowell – The City of Lowell congratulates Ineabelle Dominguez on her nomination to El Mundo Boston’s Heroes in the Community.
Dominguez, the City’s Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Officer, will be profiled by El Mundo Boston during Hispanic Heritage month.
In addition to a video interview that includes a front page and feature story in El Mundo Boston, Ms. Dominguez will appear and interview on La Hora del Cafe, the daily morning show hosted by CEO and President of El Mundo Boston, Alberto Vasallo, III.
Originating during the COVID-19 pandemic, El Mundo Boston began the Heroes in the Community profiles to highlight Latino workers who risked their lives to serve their communities.
Now the series aims to showcase members of the Hispanic community who go above and beyond to serve their community as workers in municipal and state governments of Massachusetts.
Ms. Dominguez was honored at El Mundo Boston’s Hispanic Heritage Breakfast at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel on September 20, 2024. She was one of four honorees from the Merrimack Valley area, including Lowell Police Captain Marisol Nobrega.
The breakfast was attended by over 600 people, including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. The newspaper’s Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Tony Molina, veteran and president of the Puerto Rican Veterans Association. Mr. Molina, a Purple Heart recipient and former Marine who served in Vietnam, was honored for his work within the Hispanic community.
“Ms. Dominguez’s tireless dedication to fostering equity and inclusion in our city has made a profound impact on both our municipal operations and the community at large,” said Lowell City Manager Thomas A. Golden. Jr. “Her recognition as a Hero in the Community is well deserved, and we are fortunate to have her as part of our leadership team.”
“Ms. Dominguez exemplifies the spirit of community service and dedication that we value so deeply in Lowell,” remarked Lowell Mayor Daniel P. Rourke. “Her work in advancing equity is both inspiring and crucial to our City’s progress. On behalf of the City Council, I extend our heartfelt congratulations and appreciation for her service.”
Ms. Dominguez, a lifelong Lowell resident, has worked for the City of Lowell since 2022, and was appointed to Chief DEI Officer in July of 2023.
She trains and educates City employees on the importance of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment to better serve the people of Lowell, and personally advises the City Manager on DEI issues.
Previously, Ms. Dominguez served as a probation case specialist for 22 years with the Lowell District Court, and was appointed as the Cultural Proficiency Ambassador for the Court System in 2016.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by El Mundo Boston alongside such inspiring individuals,” said Ms. Dominguez. “My goal has always been to uplift our community and promote equity to create a more inclusive experience for everyone. This recognition reflects the progress we’ve made, and I am proud to continue this work.”
