Federal, state and local authorities, including Lowell Police, arrested and charged nine members of the Asian Boyz (ABZ) gang yesterday.
Four of the individuals arrested are Lowell residents, with a fifth being originally from the Mill City. A Chelmsford man was also part of the sweep that was a follow up to a similar action in early December of 2022.
Court documents describe the ABZ gang as one of the largest Asian street gangs in the country, with ties to drug and firearm trafficking. Among those charged is 37-year old Sary Rath, a former Lowell resident and an alleged leader of the Lowell group.
“I would like to thank our federal law enforcement partners including the FBI and ATF, the US Attorney’s Office and Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office for their continued collaboration on these complex, years long investigations which help keep our community safe,” said Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon. “This operation targeted the Lowell based set of the nationally recognized ABZ street gang, which is a violent and prolific drug and firearms trafficking organization. The Lowell Police department is committed to working with all our law enforcement partners to disrupt these violent, drug and firearm trafficking organizations.”
