Chelmsford Select Board member Virginia Crocker Timmins, who finished as the top vote getter in her two previous runs for office, has decided not to seek re-election in 2025.
With the deadlines for nomination papers and signatures drawing near, Crocker Timmins’ status has been a hot topic of speculation in town, including during Tuesday’s InsideLowell Daily Pulse Podcast with Joe Ready. February 6th is the last day to obtain nomination papers, with February 11th being the last day for those papers and signatures to be filed with the Board of Registrars.
She ended the speculation this afternoon, telling InsideLowell she would not run again, citing “personal reasons” and adding that ” it has been a privilege to serve the Town for the last two terms.”
As a first time candidate in 2019, Crocker Timmins finished with 2,033 votes, nearly 450 votes higher than the second place finisher. She placed first again in her 2022 re-election bid, garnering an another impressive vote total of 2,000.
The announcement follows up longtime Select Board member George Dixon’s decision earlier this month to retire after 16-years of service. With two more years remaining on his term, the seat will also be filled in the April 1st town election.
So far, only Jeff Hardy has pulled papers to seek Dixon’s vacant two year slot on the board, while a pair of candidates have pulled paperwork for the two three-year seats that will appear on the ballot.
One of those is incumbent Pat Wojtas, who finished second to Crocker Timmins in 2019 & 2022. The other is Aaron David Cunningham, who ran unsuccessfully for a seat in 2024, though many town insiders tell us he mounted an impressive campaign and will be a strong candidate this time around.
