An article published by Michael Gleeson in the National League of Cities (NLC) puts to rest any fears that ARPA funding for Lowell and other municipalities might be affected by the Debt Ceiling discussions in Washington.
Gleeson writes that despite local leaders hearing State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) were “being rescinded as part of a final deal,” that is not the case and there is no need to rush on the part of local government to obligate those funds, based on discussion NLC has had with the Treasury Department and Congressional staffers, as well as a Congressional Budget Office analysis.
The report does say certain ARPA funds that have not been committed by federal agencies like FEMA and the FCC are under consideration to be rescinded, though that will not affect the Mill City in any way.
NLC is an advocacy organization in the United States that represents the country’s 19,495 cities, towns, and villages along with 49 state municipal leagues.
