Facebook pays all the processing fees for you, so 100% of your donation goes directly to the MVFB. Also, if you sign up as a monthly recurring donor, Facebook will match up to $100 after the second month’s donation goes through.
Okay, now time for some background info and insight…
For nearly a decade, I have reached out to my family and close friends to ask them to consider making a donation to the Merrimack Valley Food over the holidays. The first few years, I’d send an email and would raise a few thousand dollars through the generosity of family and friends.
Five years ago, on a whim, I decided to launch a Facebook fundraiser in the hopes to collect a few donations from my friends on social media. Since then, my Facebook fundraiser has truly taken on a life of its own thanks to our AMAZING community!
Here’s what has been raised (not including donations that came in through the MVFB website and the thousands of dollars I’ve been given in checks and cash for the food bank):
- 2018 – $8,213
- 2019 – $14.030
- 2020 – $26, 410
- 2021 – $41,500
- 2022 – ?
This year’s fundraiser is more vital than ever. Costs are rising everywhere making it difficult for individuals and families to pay their bills AND put food on the table.
That’s where you come in. If you are able to, please consider donating any amount to help alleviate food insecurity for individuals and families throughout the Merrimack Valley, Southern New Hampshire, and beyond.
What can your generous donation provide?
- $25 donation provides: A traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings for a local family or 25 meals for families to help them through the winter
- $1000 donation provides 1000 meals
- $500 donation provides 500 meals
- $250 donation provides 250 meals
- $100 donation provides 100 meals
- $50 donation provides 50 meals
About the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, as of 2022:
- Provided food to hundreds of thousands of our neighbors in the region (over 80,000 just in the last year)
- Distributed over 63 million pounds of food (that’s more than 48 million meals)!
- Grown to operate six hunger relief programs, including home grocery delivery for seniors, supplemental food for students, in-school food pantries, and free farmers markets
- Expanded from providing food to a handful of member agencies to over 100 members (including food pantries, meal programs, shelters, schools, and senior centers)
One of the reasons the Merrimack Valley Food Bank’s mission strikes a chord with me is that it’s such a basic need. NO ONE – especially our neighbors – should have to go hungry. Parents shouldn’t have to choose between keeping the heat on or feeding their children. The elderly shouldn’t have to make the choice between filling their medication and having a warm dinner on their table. Everyone should have access to healthy and nutritious food.
