GLTHS Students & Teachers on the Edge of Leadership

TYNGSBOROUGH — Superintendent Jill Davis and Greater Lowell Technical High School are pleased to share that 20 students and four teachers were able to attend the Edge of Leadership program at High 5 Adventure Learning Center in Vermont recently.

From Aug. 1 to 3, students and teachers participated in Edge of Leadership, an experience that pushes the limits of both students and educators to discover the confidence found in hard work, collaboration, and success via outdoor challenge courses and team building activities.

Students and educators practiced using sound judgement and making healthy choices; realized the potential of communication, dialogue and collaboration; discovered empowering confidence to lead by example; developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills; and learned skills for making a positive difference in their school community.

“The Edge of Leadership program was an amazing experience for me because it allowed me to talk and become friends with other students that I did not know well,” said Skylar Bergeron, a Grade 11 Graphic Communications student. “The camp brought everyone together as a team to support each other with the various team-building activities. Everyone was also encouraged to try new things that we wouldn’t normally do, which I thought was a great way to try new and amazing things and get important life experiences from them. Overall, I loved the time I spent at EOL!”

“By the end of the program, I generally felt a way deeper, adventurous curiosity, doing things I never thought I could really do,” said Kayla Pinales, a Grade 11 Design and Visual Communications student. “In my opinion, I would recommend Edge of Leadership to anyone who feels like they want to do more spontaneous things but feel too afraid to. It really makes you humanize the people around you and recognize you’re not the only one figuring things out along the way.”

“With the three days in Vermont, I feel as if I learned a lot about myself, and how to interact with others,” said Christian Da Rocha, a Grade 10 Electrical student.

“I am pleased that some of our students and staff were able to participate in this wonderful leadership program in the great outdoors of Vermont, where they were challenged to reach their full potential,” said Superintendent Davis. “I was also pleased to see how the students used the skills that they learned to facilitate team building activities during our new teacher orientation and leadership retreat this summer. The EOL experience opens doors to new collaborations between students, educators and administrators helping to build a stronger school community.”
