LOWELL – Interim Superintendent Liam Skinner is proud to announce Matt Steinberg has been named principal of the Wang Middle School.
Steinberg, a Lowell native and 1995 graduate of Lowell High School, began his career at Methuen High School where he taught history for 10 years and served as Social Studies Department Head for one year. He served as the Assistant Principal of Haverhill High School from 2012-2019 and been the Principal of Samoset Middle School in Leominster since 2019.
In Haverhill, he was part of a strong group of educators and administrators that moved the school’s accountability percentage from the bottom 9th percentile to the high 20s. While at Leominster, he and his staff navigated the changes brought on by the pandemic and returned student achievement this year to pre-pandemic levels. He also led capital improvements to the gymnasium and the Academic Hub (formerly Media Center), which greatly improved staff and student morale.
Steinberg is a proponent of the “Every Classroom, Every Student, Every Day” mantra in which all members of the school community are focused on each students’ academic, social and emotional growth through all measures.
Interestingly, he was the Director of Gameday Entertainment for the Lowell Spinners for 19 years (the Wang Field Day activities will surely be epic).
Steinberg holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the College of the Holy Cross, a Master’s Degree in education from UMass Lowell, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) in Educational Leadership from Salem State College.
His sons, Theodore and Timothy, are Wang Middle School grads and are now both at Lowell High School.
Steinberg takes the reins from Matthew Stahl, who led the school for 17 years.
