Rourke Bridge Public Information Meeting

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (DOT) is hosting an In-Person Public Information Meeting to update the public on the status of the Rourke Bridge Replacement Project in Lowell. The meeting takes place Tuesday, July 15 from 6:30pm–8:30pm, at the Collegiate Charter School of Lowell Gymnasium, located at 1857 Middlesex Street in Lowell.

The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to learn more about the project and provide feedback. There will be a presentation on the project background, design development, schedule and construction phasing, early construction activities, public involvement, and next steps.

The event will include a formal presentation followed by an opportunity for public questions and comments. All input will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible. The meeting will be recorded and made available online for those unable to attend.

Project improvements include: the full replacement of the existing bridge with a permanent modern structure, improved traffic operations, new pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, enhanced safety features, landscaping and hardscaping improvements, and better connections between Middlesex Street and Pawtucket Boulevard.

The bridge will feature increased capacity providing two travel lanes in each direction, shoulders, sidewalks, and shared use paths on either side of the bridge, for pedestrians and cyclists. Intersections at either end of the bridge will be reconstructed, as well as portions of Wood Street, Pawtucket Boulevard, and Old Ferry Road.
