Inside Stories

Inside the SPC Matthew Pollini Fund

Originally published November 1, 2023 as part of a series by Special Contributor and local Philanthropist Ellen Andre focusing on local non-profits

My focus with this series is to share information about many local nonprofits in our community doing great work…some on a small scale and others on a larger scale.

Each of the organizations that I will be highlighting have different missions but all work toward the “common good.”  They’re organized to serve a public or social benefit, improving individuals’ lives, children and families, health and wellness, veterans and military needs and much more.

Hopefully through these ongoing articles you’ll learn about an organization that speaks to you, and you’ll be moved to learn more or donate to their mission.

———————————

The first organization is The SPC Matthew Pollini Fund founded by Mike Petterson and operating 12 years to date.  Their mission is to assist victims of natural and man-made disasters, as well as, soldiers and first responders in severe need due to occupational hazards.  Their largest community is made up of veterans and first responders however the fund aids other victims of natural or man-made disasters (not just veterans and first responders).  They also provide an annual scholarship to a senior at Rockland High.

All of their events and service is in Matthew’s memory.  Recently they held a very successful 5K Ruck or Run in Dracut.  In the summer they hold a motorcycle run and have held a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament.

Going forward they’d like to begin new initiatives such as a heating program to provide some financial relief for up to 30 soldiers.  This is necessary due to heating costs increasing by 64% this winter.  They hope to get grants and donations from individuals in the community.

You can learn more about the fund at: www.spcpollinifund.org and on Facebook.  Please share and like their posts, attend events and donate.

  1. This is a truly great organization that has provided scholarships to students, emergency funds for Veterans during crisis, and even provided the 211th MP BN with grocery cards to help with the current situation with inflation.
The foundation brings great credit and support in honor of SPC Matthew Pollini!
I’m proud to have collaborated with them and look forward to continuing with that in 2023! They even went as far as ensuring Operation Delta Dog that I would have transportation to training classes which helped me get approved into the program and today I have my service dog José because of that commitment!
Thanks to everyone who has made this great organization a lasting success from donations to Volunteers it’s truly amazing to see the community come together in remembrance and to help our fellow Military & Veterans!

    • Mike, I truly appreciate your comments. All this organization does is because it’s what Matthew Pollini would have done. As you have heard me say many times, Matthew Pollini only wanted to help people and he did so as often as he could and didn’t matter if he even knew you. This fund spends our money locally to ensure we make the biggest impact in our communities. Thank you for your support, Mike and the Pollini Fund looks forward to continue partnership with Hellfish Haven.

The local nonprofits that are supported by the folks in the Lowell area are amazing! I was raised in Lowell and though I am thousands of miles away am incredibly impressed with the selfless work Ellen does to bring attention and assistance to so many fine programs benefiting so many excellent causes. God bless all who help.
