LOWELL – Joseph Richard “Joe” Boucher, 85, a longtime Lowell resident, died peacefully on November 26, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Wilma (Hunter,) with whom he enjoyed 55 years or marriage.
Born on November 22, 1938, he was the son of Agnes (Boucher) and Hermidas Boucher. He attended Saint Jeanne D’Arc Elementary School, where he was later a parishioner of the Church, as well as Saint Joseph High School. Joe was an employee of Griffin Greenhouse in Tewksbury for over 20 years.
Joe’s interests included the outdoors and sports. While he enjoyed hunting and fishing, his luck was not the best and his turkey call in particular brought more laughs from his companions than actual results.
A weightlifter as a young man, he remembered working out in the same gym as the Boston Celtics in the game’s early days. He took his sons to see all of the Boston teams in his middle age and continued to follow them on television later in life. He also enjoyed attending as many of his children and grandchildren’s sporting events as he could.
Above all, his favorite role was that of “Grandpa” and this is undoubtedly where his impact will be felt the most.
In addition to his wife Wilma, Joe is survived by his two sons, Tom and his wife Cristy, Chris and his wife Erica; his daughter, Elaine and her husband Sandi Marte; his five grandsons, Colton, Braden, Hunter, Jaden and Kaleb; his great-grandson, Ethan and his sister, Dolores D’Andrea.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Donald and Louis Boucher and his sisters, Cecile Simecki and Rita Vroman.
Joe’s loved ones would like to express special thanks to the staff at Northwood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center and Hospice Services for their patience and gentle care over his final days.
