Robin Desmond, Chief Academic Officer for the Lowell Public Schools, was named the next Leominster School Superintendent Tuesday night.
Desmond was one of three finalists for the position, along with Newton Assistant Superintendent Renee McCall and Milton Superintendent Kevin McIntyre, vying to replace Paula Deacon at the end of the school year. She received all but two of the votes from the nine member School Committee, though a follow up round of voting ensued to make the decision unanimous.
Desmond has been with LPS since August of 2000, starting as a teacher and working her way up the ladder eventually to Principal, Assistant Superintendent and her current role as Chief Academic Officer.
She will now enter into contract negotiations with the City of Leominster on a contract. When contacted by the School Committee after the vote, Desmond responded that she was looking forward to the opportunity to lead the district.
