CHELMSFORD – The Council of Chelmsford Schools (CoCS) has awarded scholarships to two worthy seniors who recently graduated from Chelmsford High School.
Each spring, the CoCS awards two scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, to two graduating CHS seniors who plan to attend a two- or four-year college in the fall.
The Council also awards $100 to each of the Chelmsford Public Schools staff members who inspire the recipient essays.
During its meeting on Thursday, June 6, the CoCS invited the two scholarship winners to read their essays.
This year’s recipients were Lyla Kiloski, who plans to attend the University of Rhode Island to double-major in sports media and communications and Delia Schiefen, who will be attending Quinnipiac University to study health sciences and physical therapy.
The subject of Ms. Kiloski’s essay was Jennifer Orsini, her guidance counselor. She credits Ms. Orsini with not only being incredibly easy to talk to, but also helping choose her current career path.
Ms. Schiefen wrote her essay about Matt Bartos, her advisor in LIME Club. She commended Mr. Bartos for his selflessness, and how he’s always willing to help students.
In her essay, Ms. Schiefen quoted the famous proverb, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
She credits Mr. Bartos with “teaching her how to fish” academically since she was a freshman.
