Air-quality testing conducted Friday at the Pawtucketville Memorial Elementary School in Lowell came back with what officials are calling “very good” results.
The message was conveyed to the City Council in an email from the Manager’s office Sunday, and later conveyed to the school’s families, teachers and staff in an email that was forwarded to InsideLowell. That email is published in its entirety below, as are results of testing conducted by EFI Global, which were also attached to the email sent to the school community.
Conditions at the school have been a source of concern for years. Despite efforts last year and throughout the summer to remediate the issues and allay fears of parents and staff, teachers at the school expressed serious concerns in a letter sent to InsideLowell Thursday and published as part of an article about the situation.
Teachers also staged a high visibility “stand out” at the school Friday, holding signs calling attention to the situation.
However, results showed the five most concerning classrooms with “indoor fungi counts registering much lower than outdoor air samples.” A follow up narrative report describing the findings is expected from the firm early this coming week.
EFI Global is a full-service engineering company out of Wilmington that’s been hired by the city to examine the school. They’ll be back in the building Monday to begin the first of monthly air quality tests that will be conducted throughout the school year.
