InsideLowell is pleased to announce the addition of lifelong Lowell resident, Mary Burns, to our talented and knowledgeable team of Insiders.

Burns has been active in Republican politics for over 30 years and has led a successful political career “behind the scenes” as both a political operative and longtime GOP volunteer for too many campaigns to list. She has been the go-to person in the Mill City for the Charlie Baker and Karyn Polito Administration. Whenever the Governor or Lt. Governor made a stop in Lowell, which occurred often, you could count on Mary to be there as well.

Burns has also worked for Governor’s Weld, Cellucci, Swift and Romney.  She is also known for her commitment to the City of Lowell, UTEC, and the University of Massachusetts where she serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, and as Chair of the University of Massachusetts Building Authority.   Like many others, Mary believes that the University of Massachusetts Lowell and its sister campuses is the economic engine of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  “Over 80% of our students are Massachusetts residents, and the majority of our graduates live and work in Massachusetts after graduation, and the education they receive at UMass is equal to, or better than any of the privates and it is half the cost, “ said Burns.

Burns is self-employed and has spent her entire life in the Highlands section of Lowell, Mary’s favorite pastime is sitting by the sea and traveling.
