Think you’ve got the singing and acting chops to play your part in a Tony-award winning Broadway musical, albeit here in the Mill City?
Then do we have an offer for you!
For the first time ever, Middlesex Community College is issuing a community-wide casting call for locals to audition to be part of the college’s spring musical, Jonathan Larson’s RENT, being performed at the Academic Arts Center on Central Street!
The college’s Theatre Department is seeking talented, non-union performers from the diverse Greater Lowell community to perform in a series of springtime performances.
“The Middlesex Community College Theatre Department prides itself in offering productions that empower and challenge,” said Karen Oster, MCC’s Chair of Performing Arts. “For this production, we would like to open our production of RENT to the community so that anyone is welcome to audition. These connections will allow our students to share their stories with others and be part of a larger community that sees the arts as a crucial addition to their lives.”
Auditions are open to performers of all races and ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, and ages. Middlesex is looking for performers who are Asian/Asian American, Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic American, Indigenous/Native American.
The first round of acting and singing auditions will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4 and Thursday, January 5, with callbacks on Sunday, January 8, 2023. Performances will take place from Thursday, April 20 through Sunday, April 23 and will be open for the community to attend.
Rent is a rock musical by Jonathan Larson that tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create lives for themselves in lower Manhattan under the shadow of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Previously, Oster has overseen multiple productions with her theatre students, including most recently, the Rocky Horror PIcture Show and Romeo and Juliet.
