LOWELL – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing the temporary overnight roadway detour on VFW Highway westbound between Bridge Street and Aiken Street in Lowell. These lane closures are scheduled to occur, Sunday through Thursday nights, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning, beginning Sunday night, September 14 through Friday morning, September 19.
Pedestrian travel will not be impacted. These closures will allow crews to safely excavate and install large drainage segments without impacting daytime traffic.
Detours will be in place as follows:
- Westbound vehicular traffic will be detoured onto Lakeview Avenue, at the Aiken Street intersection vehicles can enter onto VFW Highway.
The work is being conducted as part of a $10.5 million project to reconstruct VFW Highway and make other improvements to drainage, pavement, pavement markings and sidewalks/Shared Use Paths.
Police details, signage and other traffic control devices will be deployed nightly to assist motorists through the detour.
Those traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution.
