Lowell Girls Lacrosse Weekly Scoop (April 16, 2026)

It was a great opening weekend across all levels, and Lowell Girls Lacrosse is already building early-season momentum. The teams now turn their attention to the home opener this Sunday, April 19 at Carvalho Field.

Grade 1/2:

The Grade 1/2 team opened the 2026 season with an impressive 7–4 win, bringing energy, effort, and enthusiasm to their first game. Several players saw live action for the first time, supported by strong leadership from returning players Charlotte Patterson (1 goal, 1 assist, 5 ground balls, 2 draw controls), Sophia Bedard (1 GB, 1 DC), Evelyn McManus, Rauri Pollard, Maggie Regan (GB), Audrey Whittemore (1 goal, 1 assist, 5 GBs), and Riley Brady (2 goals, 4 GBs).

Brady set the tone early with two goals, while Payton O’Hearn delivered a standout performance with 7 ground‑ball wins, a goal, and 3 draw controls. In net, Whittemore and Regan made key stops to keep the game tight throughout.

The team also saw excellent contributions from newcomers Cait Giliberti (goal, GB), Casey McCabe (goal, 2 GBs), Vivian Kandrotas (GB), Mila Ferrer (2 GBs), Sydney Smith (GB, DC), and Madeline Kilbride (GB, DC), each making an impact on both ends of the field.

It was a true team effort against a strong Westford squad and a promising start to what looks to be an exciting season ahead.

Grade 3/4 Red:

The Grade 3/4 Red team opened their season with a commanding 20–5 win over Westford, delivering a complete performance on both ends of the field. The defense set the tone early by forcing turnovers and contesting nearly every shot, while the offense pushed the pace in transition with speed and crisp ball movement.

The midfield unit led the way, highlighted by a standout performance from Eva Mojica, who finished with 10 goals, 2 assists, 6 ground balls, and 2 draw controls. She was joined by Michaela Marshall (5 goals, 2 assists, 5 GBs, DC) and Emmagrace Glavine (1 goal, 5 assists, 8 GBs, 2 DCs), who helped control possession and drive transition play. Gisele Smith added an assist and 2 GBs, contributing steady two‑way play.

The attack group also made a major impact, with Avery Gudewich posting 1 goal, 5 assists, 5 ground balls, and a draw control. Reese Hegarty added a goal, an assist, and 2 GBs, while Etta Brunini (goal, 2 GBs, DC) and Emma Smulligan (goal, GB) rounded out the scoring.

On defense, Kenzie Keo, Kinsley Witts, Alice Regan, and Harper Ronan played disciplined, smart lacrosse, limiting Westford’s chances and fueling transition opportunities. In net, Lily Brady was outstanding, making several key saves and anchoring the defense.

It was an impressive opener, and the team looks forward to carrying that momentum into their home matchup against Tyngsboro.

Grade 3/4 White:

The 3/4 White team opened their season with a strong 16–5 win over Littleton, showcasing full‑field lacrosse and excellent teamwork from start to finish.

The midfield set the tone, led by a standout performance from Maggie Branco, who tallied 6 goals and 3 assists. She was supported by strong two‑way play from Vivian Brown, Addison Feeney, and Breton Tanguay, who helped control possession and push the pace.

Defensively, Madi O’Hearn and Katy Florence anchored a unit that consistently disrupted Littleton’s offense. On attack, Kendra Dexter and Bella Cardaci led the way, with additional contributions from Delaney Donovan and Kerryn Welch.

In goal, Lucy Arinello recorded four saves and Lyla Curran‑Benson added three, giving the team steady play in the crease.

It was a terrific team win, and the group looks forward to building on this momentum against Billerica.

Grade 5/6:

The Lowell 5/6 Red team turned in an impressive offensive showing in their opener, rolling to a 13–2 win over Westford. Dominant draw controls and crisp ball movement fueled a balanced attack, with eight different players finding the back of the net.

Maeve McKiernan is on the move for the Grade 5-6 Red squad.

Vivian Shanley led the scoring with five goals, followed by Maeve McKiernan (2), and single tallies from Brooke Sorbi, Sam Heslin, Ellie Branco, Ellie Jaracz, Addison Dolan, and Nylah Nwaise.

On the defensive end, Lowell held Westford to just two goals thanks to strong efforts from Maya Underwood and Grace Ninteau, while goalie J’Lynn Wallace anchored the unit with six saves.

Grade 7/8:

The Lowell U14 team closed out the day with an exciting win over a well‑matched Westford squad. Eighth grader Sadie Ronan set the tone early, finding the back of the net to give Lowell an immediate boost.

The offense continued to generate pressure, with Cate Richardson leading the way with two goals. Additional scoring came from Skylar Nwaise, Maggie Richardson, Reese McKiernan, and Nora Graham, who added two goals—including one on a penalty shot. A special highlight came from first‑year player Samira Wagner, who celebrated her first‑ever goal.

In net, Erin McGovern delivered a steady performance, backed by strong defensive play from Niamh Murphy, Keira Peters, Abby Smulligan, and Rosalinda Gogeun. Leadership and teamwork were evident across the field, with Maggie Wilson, Maeve Marshall, and Nora Kelly helping guide the group.

The 7-8 team leaves the field in joy after an exciting win.

Wilson made a key play off the draw, securing possession and assisting Richardson on a goal. Mairin Monaghan also made an impact, disrupting Westford’s offense, regaining possession, and assisting McKiernan.

It was a true team effort from start to finish, and the girls are looking forward to their home opener next Sunday against Tyngsboro.
