The gazebo area at the Daoulas School Complex in Dracut is all lit up for the holidays.
The tree-lighting on Saturday, December 3, was a big success, as the rain miraculously stopped just long enough for a pleasant two hours of festivities, before the skies opened up again shortly after Santa Claus led the countdown to the lighting.
The lighting came off successfully not only thanks to Mother Nature ,but also to the efforts of Stacey Coravos from Mama’s Italian Restaurant and Ann Tinnirella from Carbon Colors, who joined Louise Tremblay this year to raise money for a beefed-up display in front of the Englesby Elementary School along Lakeview Avenue.
Crews from the Department of Public Works set up the light display, and firefighters delivered Santa to the party just in time for the lighting. Before Santa’s arrival, police Officers Sunny Nguyen and John Cotnoir took turns reading Clement Moore’s classic “A Visit from St. Nicholas” to the children under the gazebo.
Also during the festivities, Selectmen Alison Genest and Jennifer Kopcinski, who are also members of the town’s Economic Development Committee, pulled the names of the winners of Economic Development’s “Make It Dracut for the Holidays” shopping contest. The grand prize was $500 in gift cards to Dracut businesses, thanks to an anonymous donor. There were also prizes worth $50 in gift cards, two worth $25 each in gift cards, and one $50 gift card donated by Hannaford.
The grand-prize winners are Maura and Scott Donahue, and Economic Development thanks those who participated in the contest.
Happy Holidays to all!
