Lowell Community Charter Public School (LCCPS) will host a book fair at lala books on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 10am-8pm.

The all-day event benefits LCCPS, which will receive 15% of sales for the entire day. The money raised will be used to provide supermarket gift cards and a pre-made dessert to in-need LCCPS’ families, ensuring they have a Thanksgiving meal to enjoy with their families.

The event is an annual fundraiser for LCCPS. Once again, there will be a read-aloud story time between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and the first hour will feature two local authors reading their books aloud and talking to the audience about being an author.

Author Chanda Ouk Wolf will read her book, A Dozen Delicious Donuts, from 11:00-11:30, and Michelle MacLean will read her book, Abilities, from 11:30-noon. Both authors will be available after their reading time to meet all patrons and sign purchased books. Purchase is not required to talk with the author or listen to stories. The authors look forward to interacting with everyone and sharing their love of books, stories, and experiences!

A Dozen Delicious Donuts is the story of growing up between cultures, American and Cambodian. The story touches on the universal theme of family and has a message of love and resilience that captures the journey of the immigrant experience.

Chanda Ouk Wolf’s book is an enriching tale that fosters a sense of self, using food to bring communities together and celebrates sharing traditions across generations.

As a special educator and author, Michelle MacClean has spent years working alongside students with a wide range of learning and developmental differences, inspiring her to create stories that celebrate neurodiversity and help young readers feel seen and understood.

Abilities is Michelle’s debut graphic novel, with a second volume currently in development.

A middle-grade graphic novel, the book follows four middle school students as they navigate friendship, academic, family, and everyday challenges of growing up with a disability. The story gives readers a chance to see the world through different perspectives while highlighting the strengths, struggles, and unique abilities that make each person who they are.

The second story time hour will feature two LCCPS’ teachers, Kim Shanahan reading from 12:30-12:30 and Danielle Foster reading from 12;30-1:00. Ms. Shanahan and Ms. Foster are excited to share a few of their favorite books.

lala books is located at 189 Market Street in Lowell and features a wonderful selection of books, one area of which is devoted to books for middle grades and a terrific children’s area.

Please mark your calendars for story time and to meet the authors, but if you can’t make it at those specific times, you are encouraged to stop by during the day and do some holiday shopping in support of LCCPS.
