Assistant Lowell Solicitor Recognized by Municipal Bar Association

Thomas Wood, 2nd Assistant Solicitor for the City of Lowell, was honored earlier this month as “One to Watch” by the Massachusetts Municipal Lawyers Association during its Annual Conference in New Bedford, MA on October 1st.

The MMLA is the municipal law bar association for Massachusetts, serving cities and towns and providing municipal law educational opportunities to its members and public officials since 1946.

“I’m grateful to be recognized by a community of attorneys and public servants who do important work representing and advising cities and towns in the Commonwealth,” Wood wrote in acknowledging the honor on his LinkedIn profile. “Municipal law has given me the opportunity to work on challenging legal issues, try cases, and continue growing as an advocate. I’m excited to see where this career takes me.”

Wood came to the Mill City in August of 2023, following stints with Keches Law Group and the KJC Law Firm. He’s recently been in the news for helping craft proposed changes to the city’s alcohol licensing regulations surrounding restaurants and bars, but specializes in federal civil rights cases and 1983 claims.

“Tom is brilliant, one of the most talented litigators I’ve ever met,” City Solicitor Corey Williams tells InsideLowell. ““His ability to understand and apply constitutional law sets him apart from most attorneys. It’s beyond impressive.”

Wood graduated UMass Lowell in 207 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice degree. The Lowell native went on to earn his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 2020. He offered a special thank you to Solicitor Williams, his wife Alanys and father Michael for being there to celebrate the milestone with him.

“I’m proud to serve the City of Lowell, grateful for the colleagues and mentors who continue to teach me, and motivated me to keep learning, improving, and giving back to the profession,” his LinkedIn statement concluded.
