LOWELL – Interim Superintendent Liam Skinner is proud to announce Washington School Principal Dr. Jason McCrevan has been named principal of the John J. Shaughnessy Elementary School.
McCrevan has been a principal in Lowell Public Schools for 18 years throughout the district, having served at the Moody Elementary, Morey Elementary, Bailey Elementary, STEM Academy, and Washington Elementary Schools. He started his career as a fifth-grade elementary school teacher in Salem, MA, prior to entering school administration.
McCrevan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maine and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Salem State College. He earned a Doctorate in Education this year from UMass Lowell in STEM Educational Leadership.
He is also a member of the NEMLEC STARS (Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council – School Threat Assessment and Response System) team and works collaboratively with law enforcement to support school emergencies in Northeastern Massachusetts. His emergency preparedness training and crisis management skills have been invaluable to the district.
Additionally, he has played a key role in recruiting and retaining Lowell Public Schools faculty and staff, as the district continues to work to diversify its team and to create a supportive and welcoming environment for all.
“I am looking forward to building relationships with the Shaughnessy students, families, and staff to assess the primary needs for improvement,” said McCrevan. “Building a strong school culture is a priority.”
McCrevan will replace outgoing principal Dr. Katrina Esparza, who led Shaughnessy for two years and left to take a position in another district.
