Joan M. (Metcalf) Stimpson, 67, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital after many years of battling health complications. She was the beloved wife of James Stimpson of whom she was married to for 50 years. They had celebrated their wedding anniversary on April 23rd.
She was born in Lowell on September 16, 1955 and was a daughter of the late Bernadette (Emond) and Carl Metcalf. Joan worked at Macom of Burlington from 1977-1990 as a silk screening supervisor before she retired in 1990.
Joan was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family at the beach when she could and she loved to go shopping.
In addition to her husband James, Joan is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughter, Christine Gikonyo; her two sons, James Stimpson and Ryan Stimpson; her three sisters, Janet Yu, Carol Metcalf and Elizabeth McConnell and her husband Steven; her brother, Gary Metcalf; her four grandchildren, Savannah Drew, Haley Drew, James W. Stimpson III and Shaelyn Stimpson; her great-grandchild, Zaylee Mae Drew; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Joan’s Life Celebration on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 5 until 8 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in St. Rita’s Church, Lowell. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
