DRACUT – Maurice L. “Bill” Hamel, co-owner of Hamel Brothers, 91, died surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, July 18, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline N. (Laferriere) Hamel until her passing in 2018.

He was born in Dracut on April 3, 1932 and was a son of the late Adele (Therriault) and Joseph Hamel. Bill was raised and educated in Dracut and directly from high school went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

Over 60 years ago Bill and his brothers, Ray, Albert and Paul started a legacy that lives on today through their sons/nephews. A long-time mechanic, starting out in Dracut, Bill had many loyal customers and friends who enjoyed visiting him at the garage on Pawtucket Boulevard.

Bill enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was snowmobiling and snowshoeing in the winter or canoeing and boating in the summer, and loved his time spent up at the family camp at Lake Ossipee. Bill’s greatest joy however, was his grandkids. Attending their sporting events, towing them around on the boat and always making sure they got their two snacks from the Mobil station on the lake. The time spent with his family was always cherished and never short of a new memory being made.

Bill is survived and will be deeply missed by his four children, Paul Hamel and his wife Phyllis of Dunstable, William Hamel and his wife Mary Beth of Lunenburg, Michael Hamel and his wife Suzanne of Londonderry, NH and Diane Malandrino and her husband John of Dracut; his nine grandchildren, Matthew Hamel and his wife Tanya, Alexander Hamel, Maura Williams and her husband Travis, Sean Hamel and his wife Jenna, Keith Hamel and his fiancé Allyssa, Haley Connolly and her husband Eric, Cassie Hamel, Jake Malandrino and his wife Alexis and Marissa Malandrino; his two great-grandchildren, Jasper and Saige; his sister, Cecile Gagnon of Dracut; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He is predeceased by his three brothers, Paul, Albert and Ray Hamel and his two sisters, Theresa McNally and Estelle Reeves.
