Baseball is back in the Mill City, and so too are the Spinners.
The Futures Collegiate Baseball League and UMass Lowell unveiled the name and branding for Lowell’s new entry in the league during a morning press conference at the Tsongas Center. And while the new team is not a Red Sox affiliate, as the former team calling LeLacheur Park home was, the nostalgia of bringing back the popular Spinners name is likely to be very well received by a public hungry for baseball’s return to the banks of the Merrimack River.
News that Lowell would become the FCBL’s newest entry was announced over the summer, with the team starting play in May of 2026 at LeLacheur Park, now owned by UMass Lowell.
The team’s ownership group is set to be introduced today, with plenty of local flavor and history involved in that aspect, as well.
John Croteau, the former President and CEO at MACOM, is the Chairman and CEO of the new Spinners. Under his leadership from 2012-2019, the semiconductor giant was Lowell’s largest private employer and was valued at $4.5-billion.
Croteau recently retired after 42-years in the tech sector, most recently as CEO of Pison, a neurotech startup out of Boston. He holds a B.S., Engineering Science and Mechanics, from Penn State University.
Joining him in the front office is Marc Deschenes, who will serve as Principal Owner and Chief Baseball Officer for the diamond squad.
The Lowell and Dracut native pitched for UMass Lowell before moving on to a 13-year career in professional baseball’s minor leagues, including a stint in the Red Sox organization with the Portland Sea Dogs and Pawtucket Red Sox from 2004-2006.
Deschenes’ LinkedIn profile lists him working with Croeteau as Vice President of Sports Operations at Pison in 2023.
He founded several youth baseball and softball organizations, including the Junior Spinners, now known as USA Prime.

One response to “Baseball Takes Another “Spin” in Lowell”
My name is Alan St.louis and I am the current World Record Holder for singing the Anthem. I Would love to sing the National Anthem for opening day in Lowell if I could.
I have sung for every team in the FCBL (mainly for the Silver Knights)
I hope to hear from you soon!
