Belley Roasted as Salvation Army Honoree

Lowell Mayor Daniel P. Rourke with Honorary Chair Paul Belley

On Thursday, November 6, The Salvation Army of Greater Lowell held its 33rd Annual Christmas Castle Breakfast at Lenzi’s in Dracut. This year the non-profit roasted Paul Belley — as honorary chair of this year’s Christmas Castle — with help from emcee City Councilor Rita Mercier, Lowell Mayor Daniel P. Rourke and Lowell City Manager Thomas Golden Jr..

Paul Belley, a Lowell resident and Tewksbury Memorial High School graduate (Class of 1974), has built a life rooted in service, community, and music.

After studying at Berklee College of Music, Paul pursued his passion as a professional musician, performing for more than 52 years at private functions, nightclubs, and concerts across New England and Canada.

Married to his wife Janet for 45 years, he has also dedicated himself to public service, serving as Entertainment Director for The Salvation Army Radiothon, a member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board, and holding roles on the City of Lowell Conservation Commission, the Bridge Club of Greater Lowell Board of Directors, and as Vice President of the Pawtucketville Citizens Council.

In addition to his musical career, Paul worked as a truck driver and later as a charter boat captain out of Newburyport Harbor before retiring from both professions.

The Salvation Army is synonymous with the Christmas season and many people give to the red kettles knowing it will directly help those in need.

The Christmas Castle began as a way to provide a central location where families could receive food, clothing, and gifts during the holidays.

Last year 1,761 children received toys, clothing, and winter supplies and 1,022 food baskets were distributed for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
