CHS Theatre Guild Takes Home TAMY Awards

CHELMSFORD – Members of the Chelmsford High Theatre Guild took home six TAMY awards over the weekend, including Best Overall Production for “Mamma Mia!”

“This is a huge honor,” said Christy Whittlesey, Fine Arts Coordinator for Chelmsford Public Schools.

The 17th annual High School Musical Theatre Awards (The TAMYS), presented by Theatre at the Mount/Mount Wachusett Community College were held on Sunday, June 2.

The event recognizes excellence in high-school musical theater within a 50-mile radius of the college.

“The TAMY Award program recognizes the extraordinary amount of work, creativity and devotion that faculty and students pour into their high school theatrical productions,” said Gail Steele, director of Theatre at the Mount.

This year, 25 schools participated in the TAMYS, with a total of 27 shows represented.

In all, the CHS Theatre Guild’s production of “Mamma Mia!” which was directed by Erin Maitland with technical direction by Craig Robertson, garnered 15 nominations.

The CHS Theatre Guild won the following TAMY Awards in the Large School Division:

  • Best Overall Production
  • Best Performance in a Leading Role: Maeve McNeal – Gold
  • Best Performance in a Supporting Role: Maya Belmonte – Silver
  • Best Performance in a Featured Role: Alex Morrell – Bronze
  • Best Stage Crew
  • NYACM Award – Jocelyn Sylva
