DRACUT — Chief Michael Cunha is pleased to share that Dracut Firefighter/EMT Michael Stewart successfully completed and graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighter Academy on Friday, March 7.
Firefighter/EMT Stewart was one of 33 graduates from departments in the Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program Class #328.
Firefighter/EMT Stewart is a Dracut native who graduated from Dracut High School in 2013. He then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Johnson and Wales University, graduating in 2018. Firefighter/EMT Stewart worked as a Corrections Officer before joining Dracut Fire and heading to the Firefighting Academy in October.
During the 50-day training program, participants receive classroom training in all basic firefighter skills. They practice first under non-fire conditions and then during controlled fire conditions. The graduates are now certified at the level of Firefighter I and II and in hazardous material operation.
The other 32 graduates of Class #328 represent the fire departments of Acton, Arlington, Ashland, Burlington, Fall River, Holden, Littleton, Lowell, Melrose, Methuen, Milford, Natick, Plainville, Watertown, Westborough, and Wilmington.
“I’d like to welcome Firefighter/EMT Stewart to the greatest job on Earth,” said Chief Cunha. “Firefighter/EMT Stewart is a highly-qualified candidate who did well in the Fire Academy, and I look forward to seeing where his career will take him here in our Dracut community.”
