Angelos Kokkinos, a contributor to InsideLowell who had retired from the Department of Energy (DOE) in the summer of 2021, is returning to Washington, D.C. as a Senior Advisor at the DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The announcement was made public this past Thursday, March 20.
According to his online profile on the DOE website, Kokkinos will guide the office on “research, development, validation, and effective utilization of renewable energy and efficiency technologies that improve the affordability, reliability, resiliency, and security of the American energy system.”
The Westford resident emigrated from Greece in 1970 and considers the Lowell area his adopted home. He graduated UMass Lowell with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He also holds an M.S. in Fuel Science from Penn State University.
He is the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Achievement Award in Energy Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and recently served as a volunteer judge for the Elon Musk Foundation’s XPrize carbon removal competition, a $100 million effort to find breakthroughs in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
