At the conclusion of a week where legislation he co-sponsored received significant pushback from the Lowell City Council and many residents alike, 18th Middlesex Representative Tara Hong issued a statement this afternoon regarding House Bill 2347, An Act to Promote Yes in God’s Back Yard.

My compliments on your good faith effort here.
1. Waive zoning? Potential for abuse. What about building codes, fire codes, etc.?
2. Should be limited to rentals, no condo conversions later.
3. What if the church later sells the land?
4. Is the church exempt from property tax? Would the housing be exempt? Who will pay for water and sewer? Should such buildings get new hydrants? This could burden the city services at everyone else’s expense.
