John Kurland, who has served as Chelmsford Town Moderator since 2014, will not seek another term in the position.
The announcement came at the conclusion of last night’s Town Meeting, Day 2 of the Fall Session.
Kurland, who moved to town in 1991 and previously served on the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee, asked for a point of personal privilege as the proceedings wrapped up.
He cited the fact he’d be 77-years old at the conclusion of another term, and said it was “time to pass the torch to a new generation.”
Kurland thanked Town Manager Paul Cohen, members of the Finance Committee and Select Board, his aides and town meeting representatives, among others. He concluded his comments by asking for a motion to adjourn, at which point he received a standing ovation from those in attendance.
Kurland’s successor will be elected in Chelmsford’s next municipal election, scheduled for April 7, 2026.
