LCCPS Awarded Two Academic Grants

Lowell – Lowell Community Charter Public School (LCCPS) is excited to announce the award of two significant academic grants that will support innovative educational initiatives in social studies and science.

The Democratic Knowledge Project (DKP): “Civic Engagement in Our Democracy” will be introduced to LCCPS middle school students in grade 8 in fall 2025-26, providing students with deeper engagement in civic education.

Through this program, students will identify what they value, deepen what they understand, and develop what they can do to be self-caring, reciprocal, and self-confident change-makers in their community.

The OpenSciEd (OSE) science curriculum consists of robust, research-based, open-source, science instructional materials that will be adopted in LCCPS middle school grades 6-8 over the next three years.

This grant puts LCCPS teachers and students at the forefront of an exciting moment in science education as the Commonwealth’s schools transition to phenomena-based instruction, giving students a chance to engage as scientists do to apply what they are learning to explain the world around them.

LCCPS is proud to be a part of this step forward toward a new vision for science education in Massachusetts.
