Lowell 16-Year Old a Hero Among Us

Last summer, sixteen-year-old Lowell, MA native Olivia Morales, a newly certified lifeguard, never anticipated using her life-saving skills so soon.

During an afternoon swim, she noticed one of her friends struggling to stay afloat before sinking to the bottom of the pool. While others stood frozen in fear, Morales dove in, pulled her friend out, and immediately began administering CPR. Her quick and composed actions revived her friend just in time for EMS to arrive.

For her courage and quick, decisive actions that turned a potential tragedy into a story of survival, Morales was honored as the Hero Among Us during the Boston Celtics home game against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Since its establishment in 1997 by the Boston Celtics, the Heroes Among Us program has recognized outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities.

The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens.

Morales’ honor continues a trend of Mill City residents receiving recognition during Celtics games.

In January of this year, the Florence family was similarly honored. Then in March, Levenia Furosa was honored for her work with Dwelling House of Hope.
