Lowell Presidential Primary Results

After a glitch at the Reilly School caused a delay in reporting the Mill City’s Presidential Primary Election results Tuesday night, the numbers were finally released a little before Noon today.

On the Republican side, Donald Trump cruised to victory over Nikki Haley. The former President amassed 2,631 votes (67.8%) out of the 3,881 cast on the GOP ballot, far outpacing the former South Carolina Governor, who garnered 1,126 (29%)

President Joe Biden tallied 4,167 votes (76.2%) of the 5,589 cast on the Democratic side, easily besting challengers Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson. In fact, “No Preference” actually came in second to the incumbent President, with 526 votes (9.6%).

Without any real competitive races at the top of the ballots, turnout was expected to be low, and it certainly lived down to those expectations…and then some.

Only 9,603 votes were cast, compared to 16,355 on March 3, 2020.

At that point, the Democratic nomination was still in doubt. Bernie Sanders topped the Bay State ticket, with 4,988 votes (37.7%), besting eventual nominee and President Joe Biden, who earned 3,929 votes (28.9%). Massachusetts State Senator Elizabeth Warren finished third with 2,291 votes (16.8%).

On the Republican side in 2020, then President Donald Trump trounced the field with 2,323 votes (89.55%), with former Massachusetts Governor William Weld securing only 175 votes (6.75%).
