Lowell Seeks Input for EV Charging Program

Lowell – The City of Lowell is proud to announce its selection as one of 36 municipalities across the Commonwealth to receive support through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s new On-Street Charging Program. The initiative is part of a broader statewide effort to expand access to electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with a focus on equity and clean transportation.

Through the Mass CEC program, Lowell will receive technical support, planning assistance, and feasibility studies to explore on-street EV charging solutions that are practical and accessible for residents – particularly those without access to driveways or private parking.

A community survey is currently available to help inform the planning process. Residents are encouraged to share their feedback to help identify the most convenient and impactful locations for future EV charging stations in Lowell.

The On-Street Charging Program, supported by the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Coordinating Council (EVICC) and funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), aims to reduce emissions and remove common barriers to EV adoption.

MassCEC has partnered with Commonwealth Electrical Technologies and Leidos to deliver technical assistance, recommend ideal locations, and guide implementation planning at no cost to participating cities.

This support will help Lowell evaluate the most effective EV charging strategies for our neighborhoods, build out infrastructure to meet growing demand, and align with local and statewide climate goals.
