Mass Cultural Council Grant Awarded to LCCPS & Luna Theater

Lowell – Lowell Community Charter Public School (LCCPS) today announced the award of a grant from the Mass Cultural Council that will fund film events in The Luna Theater.

The grant enables LCCPS to purchase a film library that will enhance the school curricula across all grade levels and academic programs for in-school movie screenings and for after-school film events for our families and the greater Lowell community.

“At LCCPS, we believe our school is deeply connected to the community around us,” said LCCPS Executive Director Nicholas Leonardos. “Revitalizing The Luna Theater allows us to not only honor a Lowell landmark but also to create new opportunities for students, families, and neighbors to come together. This grant from the Mass Cultural Council is an important step in making that vision a reality.”

Late last year, LCCPS was gifted the building housing Mill No. 5 and the surrounding land by the Lichoulas family. The Luna Theater is also housed within the building, and the charter school indicated they planned to not only use the facility to expand their academic and arts offerings, but to also maintain it as a valuable community asset.

The mission of the Mass Cultural Council is to promote excellence, access, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and sciences to foster a rich cultural life for all Massachusetts residents and contribute to the vitality of our communities.

The council works to advance the Commonwealth’s creative and cultural sector by celebrating traditions and talents, championing its collective needs, and investing public resources to ensure a thriving cultural ecosystem for everyone.

Along with thanking the Cultural Council, LCCPS leadership made note to thank Lowell’s State Delegation and the Commonwealth for continuing to fund the arts.
