The MassHire Greater Lowell Workforce Board’s Connecting Activities (CA) program hosted high school students from across the area for an immersive career exploration and site visit at Axis Communications’ Chelmsford, MA location, home to the company’s Americas headquarters and Boston-area Axis Experience Center.
Axis is a global leader in network video and intelligent network solutions.
The visit, designed to expose students to careers in technology and innovation, has already welcomed participants from Tewksbury Memorial High School, Chelmsford High School, and Lowell High School. A tour with Collegiate Charter School of Lowell is scheduled for this spring.
These immersive tours provide students with a unique opportunity to step inside a global technology company and experience the innovative work environment and career pathways.
Students participated in a private facility tour, attended an in-depth presentation on Axis Communications’ products and services, and engaged in discussions with senior company professionals about career opportunities, workplace culture, and the skills needed to succeed in today’s evolving workforce.
“Experiences like this help prepare students to become the next generation of our workforce,” said Kevin Coughlin, Executive Director of the MassHire Greater Lowell Workforce Board. “When students step inside innovative companies like Axis Communications and engage directly with professionals, they gain a clearer understanding of career pathways, the skills employers value, and the confidence to pursue their future.”
Axis Communications staff shared insights into careers from engineering, technology, HR, sales, and business development, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and problem-solving skills. Students were encouraged to ask questions and think critically about how their academic pathways connect to future employment opportunities.
“Our Axis Experience Centers are designed to support the communities we are a part of, and our partnership with MassHire is a perfect example of how this partnership comes to life,” said Aaron Kahn, Business Area Director – Northeast. “Axis is only as strong as our people, and we believe in the potential of the next generation. By investing in local talent and working together to create access and awareness, we’re not only building a stronger workforce but also setting the foundation for long-term growth for our business and our community.”
The Connecting Activities program at MassHire works to bridge the gap between classroom learning and career readiness by partnering with local employers to provide meaningful exposure to high-demand industries. CA equips students with the knowledge, confidence, and professional connections needed to plan their futures. Connecting Activities is funded through the Department of Education and Secondary Education.
