Governing Magazine, an online publication based in Washington, D.C., highlighted Lowell’s continued growth and momentum in its Spring 2025 edition.
The format, originally published monthly in print from 1987-2019 covers policy, politics, and the management of government enterprises. Its subject areas include government finance, land use, economic development, the environment, technology and transportation, and is recognized as one of the most credible and authoritative voices in its field.
The feature on the Mill City is headlined “The Revitalization of Lowell, Mass” and focuses on efforts to encourage development, fill vacant properties and zone for more housing.
It included interviews with City Manager Tom Golden and Mayor Danny Rourke, as well as Economic Development Director Ali Carter and Allison Lamey from the Lowell Plan. There are also comments from Kathleen Plath of Cobblestones Restaurant and local artist Gary Destramp.
The publicity is the latest in string of features calling national attention to the Mill City, following up a pair of 2024 spotlights in Capital Analytics, which helped lead to an invitation for Mayor Rourke to the World Economic Forum in Toronto, Canada last September and the eventual agreement making Lowell the first Frontrunner city in the United States.
