New Dominican Organization fills Lowell with Rhythm, Joy & Tradition

Lowell – The city of Lowell came alive with rhythm, joy, and tradition during the successful debut of Tambores de Quisqueya, a new Dominican dance organization destined to become a symbol of Caribbean culture in Massachusetts.

Their performance, part of the Lowell Folk Festival, was a true spectacle of energy and color, enhanced by the vibrant presence of the Dominican carnival group Cofradía Cultural, which paraded through the city’s main streets in a procession that captivated everyone in attendance.

A Project with Dominican Roots

Led by the Dominican women Felicita -Fela-  Espinal, Pamela Blanco, and Yvonne Francisco, Tambores de Quisqueya was created with a clear mission: to bring Dominican folklore, music, and culture to new generations while strengthening ties with other cultural communities in Lowell and surrounding cities.

“We want our traditional dances and music to remain alive in the hearts of those who were born here and may not have had the chance to connect with their roots. We also want to show the rest of the world the pride and beauty of our traditions,” said the founders at the end of the performance.

Rhythms That Win Hearts

The group is made up of passionate youth and adults who skillfully and enthusiastically perform emblematic rhythms of the Dominican Republic, such as merengue, bachata, salsa, and traditional Dominican music. delivering a vibrant and diverse show. Dressed in costumes inspired by the red.

The debut was so successful that Tambores de Quisqueya has already received multiple invitations to perform at various cultural events throughout the summer and into the end of the year, confirming the positive impact of their artistic proposal in the region.

A Parade to Remember

During the folkloric parade, the dancers of Tambores de Quisqueya moved through the streets with contagious energy, drawing residents and visitors into the celebration.

The Dominican tricolor flag waved proudly, especially when well-known community leader and city council candidate Sixto De Jesús joined the parade to support his fellow Dominicans, receiving applause and support from the crowd.

Dominican Culture for All

“If what you’re looking for is an authentic Dominican folklore performance, Tambores de Quisqueya is the perfect choice,” affirmed the directors. The group is open to performing at festivals, fairs, community activities, and private events, bringing a piece of the Dominican Republic wherever they go.

The debut of Tambores de Quisqueya not only marked the beginning of a new chapter for this organization, but also showed that Dominican culture is alive, vibrant, and ready to shine on new stages in Massachusetts and beyond.
