DRACUT – Carolyn J. (Walters) Cormier, age 87, resident of Dracut, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Tufts Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert F. Cormier, Sr.

She was born in Lowell on August 3, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Elise (LaRiviere) and Frank Walters. She was an avid and loyal Red Sox fan. Forever the optimist, she would end most seasons saying “There is always next year.”

Prior to her retirement, Carolyn worked in the Middlesex Sheriff’s Department as an ADS Captain for 34 years. In her capacity as an administrative assistant to the Sheriff, she was always professional and kind to the families of the incarcerated and treated them with dignity and compassion.

In her younger years, Carolyn and Bob were encouraged (expected) to get up and dance at all functions. Everyone looked forward to watching them glide across the floor dancing to many ballroom dances, including the waltz, polka, jitter bug and foxtrot. It was a “thing” at all family weddings and gatherings.

She enjoyed bingo and playing the slot machines on her trips with the girls to the casino. She was a high-risk gambler at the nickel slot machines. When she felt reckless, she would move onto the quarter slots.

Carolyn had a love for traveling, whether it was to the summer home at Lake Winnisquam or to Seabrook, where her heart belonged to the beach. She also found great joy in shopping, floating in her pool, reading and lunches with her girlfriends.

She was a long-time committee member of the Dracut Senior Social Club and helped organize the monthly dinner dances for many years. She took pride in the fact that the Club gave the proceeds to the residents of Dracut through charitable donations.

She was the favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews. Family was extremely important to her and she loved family card games after every holiday meal. Each one of her children believed they were her favorite. She was a true and loyal friend.

Carolyn is survived and will be deeply missed by her children, Lynn Malburne and her husband Lewis, John Cormier and his wife Sheila and Scott Cormier, all of Dracut; her eight grandchildren, Emily, Jarad, Zachary, Samuel, Elizabeth, John Jr., Madison and Tyler; her three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Madilyn and Robert; as well many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Tracey and Robert F. Cormier, Jr. and the sister of the late Doris O’Connor, Gladys Pike and Paul and Frank Walters.

Relatives and friends are invited to Carolyn’s Life Celebration on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4 until 8 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in St. Francis Church, Dracut. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolyn’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
