Derek R. Anderson

LOWELL – Derek R. Anderson, 40, of Lowell, formerly of California, died on Friday, September 29, 2023 after a long fought battle with cancer. Born in Lowell on February 16, 1983, he was the son of Maureen A. (Shaughnessy) Gibbs and Richard B. Anderson and the loving father to Alexia, Liam and Aiden Anderson.

Derek was raised in Lowell and Haverhill and a graduate of Haverhill High School. Upon graduating, he proudly went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps, which he was most proud of. He recently had started a new career and worked as a journeyman electrician at IBEW Local Union 440.

His pride and joy were his three children, whom he adored and loved beyond measure. He truly cherished the time spent with his family and touched a lot of lives with his time here on earth. Always the life of the party, Derek’s spirit will live on in all who knew him.

He was an avid player of video games, loved his football and enjoyed days fishing with his Dad.

Derek is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Alexia Anderson and Liam and Aiden Anderson; his mother, Maureen Gibbs and her fiancé, Jim Hajjar; his father, Richard Anderson; his sisters, Lindsay Anderson and her boyfriend, Michael Hodges, Jennifer Ross and her husband Gary and Desiree Bergeron; his brothers, Justin Anderson and Thomas Robbins and his fiancé Christine Nary; his nieces, Amber and Avery, his nephews, Logan and Lucas; his grandmother, Rita Shaughnessy of Alabama; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends.

He is predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Besharlie Anderson, Jr..

Relatives and friends are invited to Derek’s Life Celebration on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 10 until 12 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. His funeral service will be celebrated immediately following at 12 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be held privately.
