Maureen Ann Longtin, Centralville Resident , Longtime Registered Nurse

Maureen (Byrnes) Longtin, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 with her family by her side. She was 86 years old.

Born in Boston on September 19,1937, she was the youngest daughter, and one of four children born to Howard and Mary (Geraghty) Byrnes. 

Maureen grew up in Boston and graduated from Ursuline Academy in Boston in 1955. She attended and graduated from Middlesex Community College in 1970, where she received her LPN. Later, while raising her five sons, Maureen attended nursing school at night in the former St. John’s Hospital where she obtained her RN.

For many years Maureen worked the 11 to 7 shift in the emergency room. Later in her career she transitioned to occupational health care and became an occupational health nurse. During this time she served as the president of the Massachusetts Occupational Nurses Association.

When her sons were older, she was actively involved in the local Boy Scout Council. She was the camp nurse at Wah-Tut-Ca Reservation in Northwood, NH.

Maureen enjoyed her summer vacations with her mother, sister, brothers, sons, nieces and nephews in Rockport. She also enjoyed many adventures with her niece and dear friend Vicki Webster.

Maureen always looked forward to time spent with her extended family.

She had a quick wit and great sense of humor that many of her family and friends.

have fond memories of. She was a one in a million person to all who knew her.

Of all her many accomplishments in life she was most proud of her five sons.

Maureen Longtin is survived by her five sons and a daughter in law who will miss her dearly, Jospeh Longtin of Lowell, Michael Longtin of Dracut, Chris and Colleen Longtin of Laconia, NH, Kevin Longtin of Londonderry, NH, Bobby Longtin of Chelmsford, Ma.

three grandchildren, Patrick Sheehy, Lane and Kayleigh Longtin; 2 great grandchildren, Emma Rose and Mackenzie Sheehy; and several nieces and nephews. Maureen was the mother-in-law of the late Lisa Longtin, and sister and sister-in-law of the late John and Dorothy Byrnes, Robert and Arlene Byrnes, and Patricia Austen.

Maureen is predeceased by her dear friend and longtime companion James Stanford.

The family wishes to acknowledge the staff on the Memory care unit at D’Youville Senior Care for their love and support throughout the past several years,

and to Beacon Hospice for the care and comfort they provided.

Relatives and friends are invited to Maureen’s Life Celebration at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell from 2 until 4 PM on Wednesday.
