LOWELL – Patricia A. (Mullen) DeFreitas, age 87, died Thursday, December 7, 2023 at home. She was the beloved wife of John A. DeFreitas with whom she shared 64 years or marriage.
Born in Lowell on January 15, 1936 she was the daughter of the late Annie T. (Decker) (Coulter) and Leo T. Mullen. She was raised and educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School.
In her earlier years, Pat worked in the retail industry in downtown Lowell, including McQuaides, Cherry & Webb, Jordan Marsh and Fanny Farmers.
She enjoyed her trips to Foxwoods, playing bingo and was a proud supporter, alongside her husband, of the UMASS Lowell Athletics Programs, especially the hockey program, where she maintained her season ticket for over forty years. She will be remembered by the athletes for her support of all the teams and of course, the hundreds of batches of caramels she baked for them over the years.
Pat looked forward to the holidays and the annual Labor Day family beach trip, where she got so much enjoyment watching and laughing with her great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband John, Patricia is survived and will be deeply missed by her several nieces and nephews including, Margie Thibodeau, Greg Dillon, Bill Dillon and Jim Dillon and their families; her step-sister, Judith Barber of Dracut; her two sister-in-laws, Dolores Machado of Dracut and Irene DeFreitas of Lowell; as well as many other DeFreitas, Mullen and Machado family and friends.
She is predeceased by her siblings, Ellen Dillon, Elizabeth Bernat and John Mullen and her brothers-in-law, Joseph DeFreitas, Edward Machado, Greg Dillon and Dwain Bernat.
Relatives and friends are invited to Patricia’s Life Celebration Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 4 until 7 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM in St. Francis Church, Dracut. Burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
