The City of Lowell is in the market for a new Director of Elections, after Greg Pappas announced his retirement effective August 2, 2024.
Pappas notified City Manager Tom Golden and other city officials of his intentions in an email this morning, citing ongoing health issues as the reason behind what he termed a “tough decision.” He also thanked Golden for the opportunity and his friendship in the note.
The August 2 date allows Pappas to continue with preparations for the September 3 State Primary and gives the city more than three months to find a successor.
Pappas came to City Hall in July of 2022, after nearly 30-years working with Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin.
Prior to that, he worked a two year stint as Aide for U.S. Congressman Chet Atkins, five months with the Middlesex County Commissioners and nearly six years with the Mass State Treasury.
