LOWELL- The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announces nightly detour allowing crews to complete repairs to the Rourke Bridge in Lowell, starting Tuesday, September 10, and continuing through Friday, September 13.
The work entails additional bridge joint work at the southern end of the bridge that follows up previous deck panel replacement work.
The bridge will be closed each night at 8:00 p.m. and reopened by 5:00 a.m. the following day, with a detour in place.
Traffic will be detoured as follows:
South of the Rourke Bridge, from Wood Street Extension, take a right onto Middlesex Street, left onto School Street, left onto Pawtucket Boulevard back to the intersection at Wood Street Extension.
North of the Rourke Bridge, from Pawtucket Boulevard, take a right onto School Street, a right onto Middlesex Street back to the intersection at Wood Street Extension.
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
