TD Bank, which also operates branches on Westford Street and Mammoth Road, is closing its downtown location on 45 Central Street in Lowell.
The story was reported this afternoon by television station WFXT (Boston 25) this afternoon, with a bank spokesperson confirming the downtown location is one of seven being shuttered throughout the state.
The report goes on to state closures are expected to be effective January 29, 2026, but that the bank plans to open new branches in the affected communities, which include Beverly, Chicopee, Centerville, Pittsfield, Peabody and a drive-thru location in Wareham.
“In due course, we expect to open new stores in these communities, subject to regulatory approval. In the meantime, we’re committed to making these transitions as smooth as possible for clients and customers,” the spokesperson explained to Boston 25.
TD Bank, which closed six branches earlier in 2025, plans to close 51 locations in total throughout the United States.

Who goes inside to need a teller anymore? Sometimes, you need a cashiers check but with direct deposit…what else other than new accounts opened, safety deposit boxes?
Drive thru arms and I’m done.
Even have to use my own office printer, ink, paper.
Elderly people still go inside – They do not like online activities. They are not comfortable with it- This bank was very easy for the handicapped access 😞
Another sign of the A.I. times. More and more people-to-people jobs will be disappeared by tech. There are experiments these days with robot food delivery in restaurants. I remember when so many folks had jobs sitting in toll booths on the Pike. Then little baskets appeared, and you could pretend you were a member of the Celtics when flipping exact change into them. Self-checkout at grocery stores is another one. I refuse to use them because I do not work for a grocery chain. Maybe if you gave me 30% off on my order if I rang it up and bagged it, I might consider it (not)!
Wat am I going to do this my bank I can’t go anywhere else please don’t shut down
