Tewksbury PD Keeps Watch on Wandering Children & Elderly

TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan Columbus is pleased to report that the Tewksbury Police Department is adding a new safety program for elderly individuals and children who have a propensity to wander off.

The Angel Sense program is designed for those who are elderly and at-risk children who have a propensity to wander off.

Those enrolled in the program get a GPS-locator device that they can wear.

If an individual who is enrolled in the program goes missing, the GPS locator can be activated, immediately giving police the location of the missing individual.

The Angel Sense program will replace the Project Lifesaver program, in which those with a tendency to wander wore an electronic transmitter instead of a GPS device. The GPS devices that are part of the Angel Sense program will provide more accurate locations than the previous devices. Project Lifesaver will continue to work for those who are part of the program.

“This initiative reinforces the Tewksbury Police Department’s commitment to public safety, and provides families with peace of mind,” said Chief Columbus. “This technology helps us better support families and respond more effectively during emergencies.”

To sign up for the program, or to ask questions contact Officer Kim O’Keefe at 978-851-7373 Ext. 240, or kokeefe@tewksbury-ma.gov.
