Just three weeks after opening their new athletic complex, Greater Lowell Technical High School has approved yet another project.
The GLTHS School Board approved a $6.2-million dollar expansion that will add eight classrooms to the building, along with an elevator renovation. Construction is expected to begin in March and conclude by the end of August.
The school plans to pay for the project by using $5-million in ESSER (Covid Relief) money, along with budgeting another $700,00. The final $500,000 is filled by the fact GLTHS students constructed the new field house, allowing for that savings to be used for the new classrooms.
“This project is yet another example of the continued commitment by school leadership and our Board to make Greater Lowell Technical High School the premiere educational facility in the state,” GLTHS Board Chair Lee Gitschier told InsideLowell when asked for comment. “The new classrooms allow us the flexibility to improve the educational opportunities for our students in a number of ways.”
How the eight new classrooms will be utilized is still being evaluated. The options include reducing existing class sizes, expanding the student body, creating more shop space, or some combination of the above. Because of the August timeline for completion, whatever determination is made likely won’t be in effect for the 2024-25 school year.

Wow! This school is amazing! My son went here from the Daley and graduated in 2018 and I couldn’t have asked for any better schools. He loved the VOKE. I know it’s one school that will expand and make it more accommodating for their students. Way to go VOKE!! 📚🎓✏️
Congratulations, Greater Lowell Tech! From someone involved since its planning days, I am so proud of what you have done to grow the school, its programs and provide such tremendous opportunities for your students. Keep up the great job!
