LOWELL — Superintendent Greg Hudon is pleased to share that Lowell Police Officer Christine Larocque is running the 2024 Boston Marathon to support the Officer Sean A. Collier Memorial Fund.

This will be the second year that Officer Larocque has run the Marathon to support the Collier Fund, which provides funding for the Lowell Police Youth Services’ swimming program, as well as for the Youth Services Boxing Gym operated by Lowell Police. The Fund also paid for Lowell Police to hand out gift cards before Christmas.

Officer Larocque is the lead swim instructor with the Lowell Police Youth Services Learn to Swim Program, which is primarily funded by the Collier Fund.

Officer Larocque, the daughter of the late Deputy Superintendent Daniel Larocque, has been with the department since 2021. She started running in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic was starting, and she took up the sport during the pandemic to prepare for the Police Academy.

She has finished 5K races and half marathons before, but last year’s Boston Marathon was her first marathon. She finished last year’s race in 4 hours and 10 minutes and raised over $10,000 for the Collier Fund.

This year Officer Larocque is hoping to finish the race in less than 4 hours, and to raise at least $8,000 for the Collier Fund.

“I think they’re a great foundation and they give back a lot to the City of Lowell,” said Officer Larocque. “When I learned that they were doing a Learn to Swim Program I thought it was amazing because I think every child should learn to swim. We’ve had a couple of tragedies since I joined the department so it’s great to see the department is willing to do something about it.”
